At SotA we want to support radical classes that might have trouble finishing institutional support, or that have a (major)twist on the traditional, and that are taught by folks who want to take part in a collaborative community that strives to blur and challenge traditional hierarchies. We want to support your radical ideas. What knowledge are you trying to build in your own practice and life? Don’t feel like you have to have it mastered, because you will be in a group that will help you build this class in real-time. There are no pre-requisites or requirements, anyone can apply.
Types of classes: Please thoughtfully consider which applies when selecting on your application.
Liquid classes function as a series of workshops, so each session should be able to stand alone. Students are welcome to attend a different Liquid class each day, or to stick with the same one all week.
Solid classes are based in sequential learning, most like a traditional class structure. Students will be encouraged to attend all classes; each class builds on the last.
* Gas classes are not applied for ahead of time, but are pop up experiences or instruction led by students and staff *
Stipends:
We know that the more financial barriers we are able to remove, the richer our programming and community will become. In our current budget, we are able to offer each faculty and staff member a $100 stipend per week. We know this does not come close to valuing the labor of this work, or covering the travel and time away from a job. But we hope that by offsetting a portion of those costs, we are able to make this experience more accessible than it has been in the past. If SotA is equally accessible to you without the stipend, you are welcome to turn it down and donate it back to the school, where it will be put into the bucket for next year’s scholarships and faculty stipends.

Application Review
Applications are reviewed by a rotating group of folks from the SotA community, including some Board members, some Advisory Committee members, as well as past faculty, students, and staff. If you have connections with SotA leadership don't assume they are the only ones reading this, many folks are reading this and it's best to write your application for fresh eyes :).
We ask for an enticing description, but are also interested in the nuts and bolts; i.e., a literal description, the core teaching points, and the value of the class to students.
Reviewers will not only be looking at the content of your class, but how you will facilitate; i.e., how your identity and privilege affect how you hold a position of power as a faculty member; skills and values you carry from what a past experience as an instructor or student.
Co-teaching
We do not have the space to accommodate co-teaching applications this year.
